The Beauty of St. Joseph, Michigan Beaches Through My Lens My name is Melissa of Gregersen Photography. I have been a photographer for almost 20 years, and I have the best job of photographing families on the beaches of Lake Michigan and specifically St. Joseph, MI. My goal is always to provide the highest quality photographs to families and high school seniors and have fun doing it!
There is something truly special about the beaches of St. Joseph, Michigan. Every time I arrive with my camera in hand, I’m reminded why this little slice of Lake Michigan has become one of my favorite places to photograph. From the soft, golden sand to the rolling dunes covered in graceful dune grass, it’s a landscape that never stops inspiring me.
One of my greatest joys is photographing families who have traveled here to spend a week together. Vacations have a way of slowing life down. Parents aren’t rushing to work, kids are free to play, grandparents are making memories with their grandchildren, and everyone is simply enjoying being together. Those genuine moments—barefoot walks along the shoreline, laughter as the waves splash, sunset hugs, and sandy little toes—are the memories that deserve to be preserved for years to come. Knowing that my images will be displayed in their homes for years to come is a honor and joy that makes my job so fulfilling!
St. Joseph, Michigan is also one of my favorite locations for high school senior sessions. The beach and dunes offer an incredible variety of natural backdrops that perfectly complement every personality. Whether it’s a senior walking through tall dune grass glowing in the evening light, sitting on the warm sand, or standing at the water’s edge as the sun dips below the horizon, every session feels unique. The relaxed atmosphere helps seniors feel comfortable, allowing their true personalities to shine.
One of the things I love most about Lake Michigan is that no two sunsets are ever the same. Some evenings the sky glows with soft pastels of pink and lavender, while others explode with vibrant oranges, fiery reds, and deep purples. Every session becomes a one-of-a-kind experience because nature creates a different masterpiece each night. I look forward to the sunset sessions, it’s a wonderful perk of my job to witness these sunsets through the Summer.
