Preparing for the FUN and MESSY Cake Smash Session for your baby!
What is a Cake Smash?
This is a fun way to celebrate the first birthday of your little one. We love to get creative with families to create a setup that is unique to your little one for their cake smash. Some ideas we have done in the past are” Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, “Where the Wild Things Are”, Princess, Boho Baby, Ice cream cones, Superhero, sports, flowers, gingerbread house and so many more!
TIPS & TRICKS to consider….
Cake: We do ask parents to provide the cake. We have found that some babies have allergies, parents know best, so we ask they bring the cake. Frosting is always 50/50 if babies will like. Actually we find more babies do not like frosting than do since it is quite sugary and they are not used to sugar. We suggest bring a “naked cake”, that is a cake with no frosting or minimal frosting. A “fruit smash” is another great option. You can bring in baby’s favorite fruits instead of cake. Whip cream is another great alternative to frosting as it looks good in photographs, and not near as sweet for babies.
Backdrop/Setup: We love to get creative with parents on this one. So please let us know what you are thinking and we can then let you know what we have at the studio to accommodate your idea. We will happily provide a backdrop if we have enough time to order one before the session if we do not have one that would work with your theme. If you have props that will work, we will have you bring those. We find some families like to do a cake smash that is also the same theme or idea for their one year old birthday so using party props are a good option so you get some more use out of them! 
Baby Outfit: Less is more, but we honestly do not care what your little one wears. Just know it will get messy, but it’s so worth the cuteness! 
Baby Tub: We have an adorable white baby size tub that is available to use after baby is done with the cake. It is a really fun way to end the session, and even clean baby up a bit. They love splashing in the little tub after getting a sweet treat! 
Clean Up: It can get messy, you may find you will get messy too. So bring a towel, extra set of clothes for you and your baby. If baby is covered in frosting and cake, you will find you will be too. We do have a bathroom sink available to help with cleaning.
