Fall Family Photo Outfit Guide:

We are so excited you booked us for your family photography! I am sure you are also looking forward to this session.  You might be thinking of all the gorgeous images you’ll have and where you want to display the wall portraits in your home.  Another thing that might be on your mind is what you’re going to wear! This is the most asked question we receive from families and happy to help!

WHAT DO WE WEAR?!

Over the years, I have seen so many beautiful color combinations. Some of my favorites are mauves, with yellow and maroon. Another favorite of mine is blues, browns, oranges, and reds. With the backdrop most likely being like a lot of the photos you will see below. I like to say, try and stay away from busy patterns. With the leaves having so many different colors, that is plenty of texture for the whole image. You don’t necessarily have to be completely neutral, with your colors. Almost any of the warmer color combinations work!

Tips and Tricks

Now that we’ve talked color combinations that are gorgeous for both fall and summer, I’d like to provide you some overall advice when choosing your outfits.

  1. When planning your outfits, it’s best to coordinate color combinations, rather than matching. Matching can look dated and not nearly has interesting as coordinating outfits can. Pick two or three colors and have everyone work together with those colors.
  2. Stay away from bold patterns, logos or graphics. Solid colors are very complimentary and less distracting. We want the focus to be on you and your family, not the pattern or graphic on someone’s shirt.
  3. Shoes are important. Cute boots look great in Fall photos.
  4. Think about your home décor. Try to pick clothing that will look gorgeous on display in your home!  You want to have that gorgeous wall portrait blending in beautifully with the decor of your home.
  5. One last tip from a professional photographer is for girls and women to wear something flowy, it tends to add movement to the photo and looks beautiful with the natural backdrop. Even just one girl in the family wearing a flowy dress adds that nice movement to an image. Something to think about!!
